How's life in Maldives?
Tourism is the main backbone of Maldives’ economy together with fishing. Annually, over 900,000 tourists visit the country which accounts to 17 percent of its Growth Development Unit. Moreover, fishing accounts to 11 percent of the country’s work force which contributes around 7 percent of the country's GDP. However, because of the devastating tsunami that wreaked havoc on some of its islands in 2004, the fishing community suffered a blow which caused a major drop on the fishers’ catch to which, greatly affected the economy.
